You can use scribus which is a free alternative to MS Publisher

To install scribus give the command in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install scribus

You can try Scribus.
OpenOffice.org Writer have all the features that MS Publisher have, but it might be somewhat triky to do some of the stuff.
I hope you find an application that fits your requirements.
