no python-macros in openoffice possible
I decided to pose my question again in the hope that the first time (#32679) it was just overlooked because I put it in on the weekend.
Here is may original question:
I tried to use python as macro-language in openoffice, to no avail. In fact, I couldn't even get started to learn it, because the included sample macros, e.g. helloworld.py are not displayed in the macro-administr
I found a co-sufferer in the oooforum with this thread: http://
They suggest that you uninstall Openoffice as included in ubuntu (this is Openoffice 2.4 on ubuntu 8.04) and reinstall it from openoffice-
Also I wouldn't know if I better pick "Remove" or "Remove completely" when uninstalling in Synaptic. I understand that "Remove completely" also removes the configuration files, but can I do this safely?
Any suggestions? Is there somebody out there who uses Python as macro-language in openoffice and ubuntu 8.04? Is the Uninstall/Reinstall the only possibility?
(end of original question)
Please let me explain why I am so persistent: 1) Why would the 2.4.0 version of openoffice.org make it possible to use python as a macro-language and the same version in ubuntu 8.04 not? It must be something small in the configuration, nothing very costly.
2.) The effect, however, is costly for the user. If he already knows python, he has to learn another language! Also, I bet it is easier to include outside sources like sqlite-databases with python than with Starbasic.
3.) The solution suggested above in the oooforum is not very good either. I am not talking about the onetime trouble of deinstalling and installing again, I foresee further trouble in the future with every update and upgrade, also because of the described dependencies with other packages.
Somebody have mercy!
