Dashes changed to solid line across page, cannot remove.

I put five dashes on left side of page. The solid line went across page. When I tried to delete, it would not delete. Then another line appeared beneath it. I cannot find instructions for removing it. I cannot "undo" because before I realized there was a problem, I had entered a lot of information. Unfortunately, this happened a few times, in different parts of the text.

Please help me.

MS Word does this too. Very annoying.

Can you select the space and below the line and cut it?

Could not delete it.

Changed the page style from "Default Style" to "Text Body" and the line vanishes.
