OOo fails when content is copy and pasted out

Asked by Peter Diachun

OOo crashes and the paste fails when material is copied from OOo Word Processor and then pasted to another application such as Abiword. This has occurred on several computers running Ubuntu 6.10. It does not occur when pasting to gedit, but happens with several other applications which can usually paste from the clipboard.

OOo can be reopened and the files recovered, but there is no way to get a block of text or the entire text out of OOo. This does not happen when pasting into other OOo files. It seems to happen with files of all types.

This worked in previous versions of Ubuntu.

Dear Luca,

Thanks for the response to my pasting from OOo problem. Obviously this is a known bug. I do not know how to do the fix suggested below:

The packages are available for testing by adding the following resource
 lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:
    deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ edgy/$(ARCH)/
    deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ edgy/all/

I agree that this should be fixed in an update which will take care of the problem. In the meanwhile can you give me more detailed instructions as to how to do the above. I am clearly not a computer knowledgeable person. I can find the file /etc/apt/
sources.list file which I opened in gedit. I was able to add these lines at the bottom of the file. I can not however save the file. What should I do? I do an update whenever one is available. I thought these were fixes for bugs and improved versions of applications. I would expect this rather bad bug to have been included in an update to 6.10. Maybe I made a mistake going to 6.10 from the last version. The names of these versions confuse me.
Thanks again!!

Peter

Don't forget to run these commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgdare

Maybe you want to do it using Synaptic. You have to reload packets cache and mark OO for upgrade.

Dear Alan,

Thanks for your suggestion! Doing what you suggested did indeed allow me to save the file with the added lines at the bottom. It change the file which I confirmed after rebooting. This did not change the problem of pasting from OOo even after rebooting. What should I do with this modified file? I am clueless.

In order to solve this issue, you have to install OO packages as suggested in the bug report. I suggest you to use Synaptic: have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto, "How to keep your system up-to-date" section.
If you need further help, don't hesitate :)

Dear Luca,

Thanks for your continued help! I am a real dummy. I do not understand what you are telling me. I do not see a bug report link you refer to. Also I can not find any OO packages in synaptic. What are their names? I read the HowToSynaptic your suggested. I have used some Synaptic packages, but I am lost on this one. Sorry but still need some help to get this fixed.

Peter, I realise that you are probably using an email method to respond to this issue. The bug link is actually in the web interface to the support system. Please follow the link https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+ticket/2823

There, you will find the linked bug in the panel on the right - second from the top, with the title "Related Bugs".

Can you help with this problem?
