Importing or linking spreadsheets in Base

Asked by Peter Freeman

I am moving over from MS Access to Open Office.Org Base and I wanted to know if there is the ability to either import a spreadsheet so that it ends up as a table, or to link to a spreadsheet so it appears and functions as a table. MS Access has this capability.

Thanks,

Peter

OpenOffice.org Base got both functions.
However there is a limitation in the second one, because you can't create links in your table, or to be more honest, I couldn't do it.

Since I hardly used MS Access, I don't know if a primary key is generated by default when you import a spreadsheet (by copy / paste), but you have to do it manually in Base. You also must take care of the label strings (must be ASCII).

Hope it helped.

Vivien.

PS : I'v just started answering these kinds of ticket. So please, don't hesitate to tell me what you think about it. Thanks !

Hi Vivien,

Thank you for your quick response. Using the information you provided plus a response from williamts99 I was able to import my spreadsheets into Base.

I liked your response and I hope I will be able to provide you with guidance in the future. I'm an MS Access, Excel and Word guru, however I am trying to understand Open Office's approach.

Cheers,

Peter
