Word processor "Hangs" while pressing [F1]

Asked by rainer

When I push [F1] for help in the Word Processor, 'office' hangs in sleep mode. When I use System Manager to stop the process, I can start the word processor again. I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 on an inspiron 1420 (2GB Memory, 160 GB hard drive) using the KDE shell. I was using "help" to figure out how to add umlauts when I write in German. Many thanks.

Went to SYSTEM -> SOFTWARE SOURCES -> UPDATES and selected "recommended updates". For the life of me i don't why it was not checked. Then I ran UPDATE MANAGER and
installed all the "recommended" ones. A number of them were for OPENOFFICE. Then after a reboot all problems vanished. One thing that totally confounded me was that the keyboard went to Amharic at times, it seems that [Shift] + [Space] does this, I've got faaat fingers. Bottom right is where you see this item; simply double ckick on AMHARIC and select English (or your preferred one).
