OpenOffice isn't an PIM (Personal Information Manager). I suggest you use Evolution (or equivalents) instead.

If you really want to create an address book with OpenOffice, you could use Calc. You need a row for name, a row for number, and that should make it. :/

While OO Calc is not designed specificly to be an address book, in my experience it is more easily adaptable than many of the existing formats.
I encourage you to experiment with small sample lists first, play around with the features you like, make your list to your tastes and needs. Online tutorials are available for this purpose at: http://www.tutorialsforopenoffice.org/tutorial/Address_Book.html.

Good Luck!

There is csv address book that comes with OO Writer, you can easily create addresses with this. But the problem i have noticed on Hardy is that after creating the addresses, the template for using them remain greyed out. I have a Gutsy installation that I just upgraded to Hardy that is behaving differently better when used with Mail merge facility, but not perfect, there's no space between the headers.

Can you help with this problem?
