Some time ago Ubuntu moved from Open office to Libre Office. These are almost identical and Libre Office is based on Open office. They both use the same file format.

I suggest you use Libre Office instead. it is probably already installed but if not you can find it in the Software centre.

Thanks Warren. I am getting you. But I want tool to edit and view PPT files like Impress. Can you give me link to download and steps to install?

You have probably got it already.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using?

I'll assume for now you are using 12.04 (Precise) with the default unity desktop

Move your mouse over to the left hand edge of the screen. The dash should appear (if its not there aleady).

On my machine its the sixth item down. If you can't see it click the top item and type "impress" in the search box

If its still not there then I am surprised.

But its in the software centre. Click on ubuntu software center and search for "Libreoffice" It will be there

Run:

sudo apt-get --purge remove libreoffice*
rm -r ~/.config/libreoffice

Will remove the app. What is the output of:

uname -a

Thanks
