open office conditional formating using text

Asked by paul scarbro

I am able to conditional format using numerals but I want to use text instead i.e. if A is entered the cell turns red, for B it turns blue. How can this be achieved?
Can I apply more than 3 conditions?
Thank you,
Scarbs

No. The Help menu says that you can define up to three conditions per cell.

Thanks for info about three conditions - how about my other question?

The examples in Help and in OpenOffice documentation all use numeric values. http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=29427&start=0 describes your problem. Put the values for the conditions in double quotes.

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2011-April/010115.html describes work on changing the number of conditions. This work did not make it into the product. At least not yet.

Ah ha, now I can use text for conditional formatting - thank you.

I understand someone has created a patch for unlimited rules in conditional formatting - but I can't locate it. Any ideas?

There was one more post on the web about the attachment of GPL, so the feature was not rejected. I looked for a nightly build, but there are none available. The source code is available...

Can you help with this problem?
