I cannot open anymore any of my files whether it is simply doc or ppt

Asked by mayan

The problem started when I opened a ppt file from yousendit. After succeeding, I saved it on my desktop. When I tried opening ppt file, there was a notice saying there's problem with firefox. Though I can't remember exactly what it was, it was I think saying something like firefox crashed (?) and next time it will try to recover documents. Then when I tried opening other files, none of them could be opened even those which are just simple documents. Couldn't open anything from any folder whatsoever. What has happened?

Surprisingly, I can easily open pdf and jpg files but other files such as docs, ppt, really can't open them.

Now, I can't work on anything in any openoffice application whether it's the word processor, presentation or spreadsheet simply because, ironically, NONE of them will OPEN.

Hi mayan

When you right click on a OOo document in the File Browser, what program is at the top of the list to open it with? This is the default program for opening that file type. It should be the appropriate OOo program (Writer, Calc, Impress, etc).

If it is something odd (like Firefox) that is the default program opening the file, then you need to remove it. Right click on the file and select Properties. Select the Open With tab. Highlight the top entry in the list and click Remove. The next program listed will now be the default program to open this file type. If the correct program is not in the list, you may have to click Add to select and add it.

Hope that helps

Tony

Thanks Tony, I'm saving your answer in case the same problem will occur in the future.
Actually, what I did was just to switch off my computer since I practically couldn't do anything anymore in any of the OO programs. Then when I opened again my computer, it tried to recover previous docs, and voila! Everything now functions as before though I still couldn't figure out why it happened :)

Again, thanks & God bless you.
