How do I stop my paragraphs from separating?

Asked by James Buhls

When I'm typing and press "return" to start a new paragraph, OpenOffice automatically skips two lines to the next paragraph leaving a gap between the previous paragraph and the new one. How do I set it so that when I press return the next paragraph starts on the next line? (i.e., without any extra space between the paragraphs.)

Press F11 to bring up the styles and formatting dialog.

Select "Default", then right click -> modify

Now go to indents and spacing, and see that the Above paragraph and below paragraph spacings are set to zero.

Make sure that if you have not overridden this by setting a custom paragraph style for that paragraph. You can check this by selecting the paragraph and choosing format->paragraph

F11 actually switches OpenOffice to full-screen mode, but I did find the styles-and-formatting options through the menu options. Problem solved!
