Not able to load or print document, says I locked it for editing.

Asked by Addy

My document was fine until I tried printing it. It wasn't working, so I tried closing and re-opening the document. From then on a box pops up saying it's been locked for editing by unknown user. How can I fix this? I've Googled, and I've looked at help forums, but nothing I try seems to work. I did have this happen to me before. Is it something I clicked that automatically saved my computer settings? I'm a Linux user, and use Ubuntu 10.10.

Try:

mv ~/.libreoffice .libreoffice_old

Then reopen the file and try again

Hi Addy

You should find, in the folder containing the file, that there is a 'lock' file with a name like

.~lock.YourFileName.odt#

Because it begins with a dot, you will have to enable Hidden Files to see it. Ctrl-H does that in the file browser.

All you should need to do is to delete this lock file.

Alternatively, if it lets you open it 'Read only', why not just do Save As... and save it to a different file name. You will be able to open and edit it under the new file name.
