error message on launch of Open Office

Asked by Ken Parkinson

I am new to Linux. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Open Office 3.2. System has been running fine. This morning I received a notification of software updates, which I downloaded and then re-started the computer. Now when attempting to launch any of the elements of Open Office I get the following error message:- "/var/spool/openoffice/uno-packages/cache/uno_packages/ODTX1R_/mailmarge.py does not exist" and none of the elements will launch.

ken@ken-desktop:~$ mv ~/.openoffice.org ~/.openoffice.org_old
ken@ken-desktop:~$ mv ~/.openoffice.org ~/.openoffice.org_old
ken@ken-desktop:~$

I twice pasted the code in to the terminal but the app will still not run,

I removed the Open Office suite of software entirely and then downloaded the Open Office Word Processor only. When I tried to open this app I got the same error message as mentioned in my initial request for help.

I again pasted the code in to the terminal with the following result

ken@ken-desktop:~$ mv ~/.openoffice.org ~/.openoffice.org_old
mv: cannot move `/home/ken/.openoffice.org' to `/home/ken/.openoffice.org_old/.openoffice.org': Directory not empty
ken@ken-desktop:~$

Still not possible to open the app.

Thanks

Afraid that that did not work either. I re-loaded the OS and apps from the Ubuntu disc and all apps are running now. Many thanks for your help.
