short cut assignment in word processor

Asked by Acradon

How do I assign a key short cut for cerrtain characters? I want to shortcut the greek letter mu (micro sign) to something like Crtl+M. Or subscript to Crtl+S maybe. This used to bepossible in MS office and there must be a possibility in open office.

Thanks

Unfortunately this is not *directly* possible
http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=4579

You can try this extension, or use the macro workaround as described in the bug, but it is just that -- a workaruond.

A more helpful suggestion is to simply place combinations of text into the autocomplete table, such that -u- might be substituted for the mu symbol, such as is done for (C) (the copyright symbol).

I think using the autocorrect function is probably the best way. However, I think somebody should start programming a shortcut assignment function into the word processor, otherwise I will have to admit that MS word is better in this respect and I don't want to do that.
