Set data filter parameters in the spread sheet for 'blank' cells not 'empty' cells

Asked by Neil Britz

In Excel if I filter (data) a column that has cells that do not numerical values in by selecting "non blanks" it ignores the formulas that are in the cells, but in Open Office Spreadsheet the equivalent "not empty" does not ignore the formulas and therefore all the rows remain visible because there is a formula in the cell but not a numerical value. What must I do to set the filter parameter to "blank" or "visible value" or something like that. I have tried to change to "standard filter" and "advanced filter" but I still get the same result. I would appreciate help on this because it is a vital part of my business quoting system

Can you provide a short example? I tried filtering a spreadsheet where I had the numbers 1->10 running in column A, then I had a formula in the second column B which was "=2*A1", running to "=2*A10". I deleted the contents of A5, and got a zero adjacent to this.

If I want to have a null entry, I can either use =IF(A1="","",2*A1) in the second formula, or I can set the data filter using the filters Column B condition >= 0. The empty line at A5 is dropped as expected.

Can you help with this problem?
