resetting header margins

Asked by kirsten

Hi-

How do you re-set header margins? I have my page margins for text set at 1 inch all around (I think it is an inch - looks like an inch but can't tell how to change from inch or cm)...

Anyway, I have now inserted the headers, so that I can insert the page numbers, inside the headers, and it appears that my text has been pushed down to accommodate the header. So, in effect, my text is no longer 1 inch around, but has been pushed down by the header. I assumed that the header would insert itself at some halfway position, (normally .5 of an inch in Word anyway) in order to keep the true margins of text the same as how I set them.

I have tried to figure out how to change the header margin so that it is closer to the top of the page, and that my text will actually be 1 inch all around. I did not understand the help section. it is not the spacing between text and header, it the spacing between header and top of page.

Ideas?

hi,
lets go one step at a time and try to help you through with this.
1) To set your measurement units: goto: tools > options > openofficeorg writer > general > and select your desired units (inches, centimeters)
2) To change the margins around your page goto: format > page > page (second tab) > and set your left, right, top and bottom margins.
3) To change the distance between your header and your text-body: format > page > header (fourth tab) > and set the amount of spacing....

Succes

by the way,
the height of the header added by the spacing of the header and the top margin gives the margin to the text.... :-)

Can you help with this problem?
