10.10: strange behaviour

Asked by peter

Hi

My system has a strange behaviour.

If I use Namoroka to surf the web, suddenly a page will open. Or in Calc I have problems to capture cata. Because the data is positioned somewhere else I want.

First I thought it's a virus. But in Ubuntu?

Do you have an idea what I can do? Thanks.
Peter

No you will not get viruses in Ubuntu.

Namaroka is a beta version of firefox so you can expect issues just like any beta software. Try switching to a STABLE version of the browser and re-test

Ok, but the problem with Calc is not solved. Above all this is the problem.

And it happens for few days. Suddenly it started. And everything before was ok.

Thanks for the hint.

your description of the problem with calc is vague.
can you be more specific?
what do you mean when you say you're trying to cpature data?
how are you trying to capture the date?
what do you mean when you say it is somewhere else?
where is is?

I tried to enter data. But the data was written to a another cell. I tried it again, and I got the same result.

I don't have anymore the control of the cursor. Also now it's difficult to write this. I write a word but only the first character is accepted. The rest of the word is placed somewhere else.

The programs do what they want.

What is the make and model of your computer? Does your computer have a touchpad? (If it's a laptop, then it almost certainly does.) Perhaps the touchpad is not well-configured, such that the slightest touch causes the mouse cursor to be moved, and the slightest tap causes it to click. If you are *extremely* careful not to touch your touchpad at all, does the problem go away? (That is obviously not a good long-term solution, but it would diagnostically confirm this as your problem.)

No, I don't have a notebook. I have an old Compaq EVO-D510. Withot a touchpad.

I guess it's time for a new installlation.

In that case, I really have no idea what's going wrong.

Before reinstalling, select Try Ubuntu on the live CD and try using the live system for a bit--see if this problem occurs for that. If it does, then reinstalling is unlikely to fix the problem.

If you want to perform further testing before reinstalling, please let me know (by posting to that effect) -- I can suggest other ideas (though none of them are very good).

I'll leave this open rather than submitting this post as an answer -- maybe somebody else will have a good idea about what this might be.
