Formulas don't export to .docx

Asked by eva-fate

I installed math for a math course at my college. The teacher requires us to save our files in .docx format, and I found out after turning in the homework assignments that although they save and reopen fine in .odf, a bunch of formulas are just blank when the document is saved as .docx.

Other programs will save in .docx format. Look e.g. at http://askubuntu.com/questions/32691/what-do-you-use-to-edit-microsoft-word-documents-docx

To some extent it depends how complex your math formulas are. Have you tried saving in .rtf format?

"The teacher requires us to save our files in .docx format"

I remember that one technique that at least used to work for appeasing people who thought they needed to receive documents in (the older, non-XML-based) .doc format was to export documents as HTML and rename the file extension from .html to .doc. Microsoft Word is perfectly capable of reading HTML, and of recognizing that a .doc file that is actually HTML is HTML, and of not bothering the user with pesky details about how it's not really .doc, unless the user looks hard for that information.

Perhaps this technique works for .docx as well. You might try it, and see.

Can you help with this problem?
