Document Recovery for writer persistant

Asked by Donna Simonds

After adjustments were done in OOWriter I get the DOCUMENT RECORVERY box.
It asks me to hit FINISH RECOVERY.
Then says it can't recover OOWriter.
Press FINISH RECOVERY again and this
brings up the document.

How can I repair this and get OOWriter back to normal?

To try and fix this problem, I removed OOWriter and reinstalled the program.
This did not fix the recovery problem.

I see on the Ubuntu site that 7.10 is coming out, will this help?

Try removing the hidden openoffice folder called .openoffice.org2 inside your home folder.
You have to choose "Show Hidden Files" to see that.

Deleting the whole .openoffice.org2 directory will reset all your preferences for OpenOffice.org.

Deleting just the following file worked for me. It clears out just the documents that OOo tries to recover:
/home/username/.openoffice.org2/user/registry/data/ org/openoffice/Office/Recovery.xcu

In my opinion this is some type of bug in that the user can't clear them out easily, or at the least a lack in the documentation. Any help to address this shortcoming would be appreciated.

Or, you can just click "Cancel" when it prompts you to recover the file, and it will never try to recover it again.
