how do I draw a text box in openoffice presentation?

Hi Ana

Make sure you have the Drawing tool bar enabled (View > Toolbars > Drawing).

Then you should be able to just click on the text tool, which is a big A. Use the mouse with right button pressed to 'draw' the text box over the picture. Then fill in the text you want. Just make sure the picture is not 'selected' before you do it.
