openoffice inserting clipart and creating text boxes

Asked by Patricia Callen

I am new to Ubuntu. Missing Publisher. I need to make tags with a descriptor on one end and a clip-art graphic on the other. I would like to be able to create text boxes that I can turn on their side if necessary to make fit.

Hi Patricia

You are well off without Publisher. It is the ultimate lock-in as its files cannot be imported into many other programs even though it does very little that cannot be done by other programs.

To turn text on its side:

Are you using Writer (the word processor) or Draw?. In Writer you will need the Drawing tool bar enabled (View > Toolbars > Drawing). Click on the Text icon to add a text box, Type some text. Click away on the document. Click the text again to highlight the frame round it. Right click the edge of the frame to get the context menu. Select Position and Size, Change Angle of Rotation on the Rotation tab to 90 degrees.

You will have to describe a little more what you mean by 'tags with a descriptor on one end and a clip-art graphic on the other'. Do you mean like a box with text in it and a line from it pointing to a picture?

Tony

Can you help with this problem?
