Autosave / Recovery problem for Writer (crash!)

Asked by waryap

Hi, I have a big problem here.

I was editing a Word doc using openoffice and I notice while editing the document, Openoffice was auto-saving the file every 5-10 minutes.

When I'm done with my editing, I closed the windows expecting a "save document dialog" to appear. But that didn't happen, instead i got a message asking me to "wait or force quit" and before I could press anything Openoffice was closed.

When I try to open up document, NOTHING was saved. And there wasn't any Recovery option too ?

So my question is , where is the recovery directory for openoffice ? How can I retrieved those versions that was autosaved. I tried File -> Versions...but it was grey.

What other options to I have ?

Your help is greatly appreciated !

Thanks :)

Check .openoffice.org2/user/backup in your home dir (.openoffice.org2 is hidden), check /tmp too.

Also take a look in tools-->options-->openoffice.org-->paths to see where it can place it's backups.

If there's no recovery dialog you may be out of luck unfortunately. If that's really a big problem maybe you can some file recovery tools would help (limit disk usage to an absolute minimum if you're determined try that).

Yup. It's ~/.OpenOffice.org2/user/backup.
Although it's not backing up in OOo 2.3.
