Calc pastes stuff I don't want!

Asked by DavidS

I am editing a file in OO Calc. When I have copied a cell or an area, and perhaps already pasted it somewhere else, I find that when I go to another cell and press Enter (in order to edit the cell), instead of entering edit mode I get the previously copied area pasted in instead.

How can I stop this happening?

i suspect that you copied a cell but never pasted it, so when you press enter, the content got pasted.

anyhoo, to edit a cell, you press F2.

if you're entering new content into a cell, you just start typing. no need to press enter.

I don't want stuff pasted when I just press Enter - I can use Ctrl-V for that.

Also I have "Press Enter to switch to edit mode" selected in Options - OpenOffice.org Calc - General, so that's what I want Enter to do! I find it more convenient than using F2, particularly on my small hand-held computer which has no actual function keys.

You can quickly just tap undo, as a workaround. Try filing a bug with openoffice, though upstream has been historically notably slow to respond to bug reports. This might change in the future if ubuntu shifts to libreoffice.

Can you help with this problem?
