Powerpoint presentations won't open in Ubuntu

When I download a powerpoint presentation Openoffice 3.2 is not compatible with it I guess. Is there any other programs that would work for opening up what I assume would be MS Office 2010?

Can you try run the command "file <doc_filename>" from Terminal against these files and paste the output here?

Have a look at koffice suite. Perhaps they have a software which will works with powerpoint.

Please give us the filename with extension. We need to know which version of PowerPoint the presentation was created by. Can you get the presentation saves in an earlier version of PowerPoint? E.g MS Office 97/2000/XP
