On open office open: Tools > Word Count.

Or you can go: File > Properties. Then click on the Statistics tab

Hi

A spreadsheet will not have Tools > Word Count or a character count in its Properties. This is because a character count may not make any sense in the context of a spreadsheet which contains numeric data and dates.

Possibly, the closest you can get to a character count for a spreadsheet is as follows

1. File > Save As and choose to save as Text CSV.
2. When prompted, choose Keep Current Format.
3. In the Export of text files dialogue, delete the Field and Text delimiters and click OK.
4. Open the CSV file with the gedit text editor (Applications > Accessories > Text Editor.
5. Choose Tools > Document Statistics.

If your spreadsheet has more than one sheet, you will have to do that for each sheet.

Hope that helps

Tony
