how do I go back to previous cursor location in OO Writer?

Asked by montag

Using OO Writer 2.2 (on Ubuntu Feisty), I've been trying to find a way to go back to the previous cursor location in the document after clicking on a hyperlink. I got used to that feature in MS Word where you can click on Back and Forward buttons on the Web toolbar as though the document were a web page. Many of my large .doc documents from my Windows days are difficult to use without that feature. I do know that OO Writer allows you to go to the previous page or other previous document elements - such as previous heading etc - via Navigator, but does it allow you to go back and forward between cursor locations in Writer as you can in MS Word? Or are there workarounds? And if that feature doesn't exist currently, are there plans to implement it?

Many thanks for any help.

I haven't seen back and forward buttons in OO Writer. As you have seen you can use the navigator to move around in the document.
If what you want to achive is to be able to view another part of the document and quickly get back to were you started then a work around is to open the same file in another window (menu item: Window, New Window) do your job in the new window, close the window (or just switch) and get back to where you stared off.

Hope this is to some help.

The question is some years old, maybe features have changed and I didn't realize since I would post today the same question:
"is it possible to get back to previous cursor position after having been thrown far away in the document by an internal link?"
adding a variant
“after opening an existing document, is it possible to quickly move the cursor to the position it had when the document was last saved”
The suggested workaround is not a solution for me, particularly in the second case, but even in the first one since you have to decide in advance, before clicking on the link, to open a new window in order to rapidly return to the original position.
