In open office base I would like to format for phone numbers but ###.###.#### does not work. What is the solution?

Asked by Tilo Haas

when I enter a phone number in a one step format = 1234567899 I would like the computer/ data base to convert it automatically
to 123.456.7899 and even better to 123-456-7899. Is there a formula available to do this in the data base program? I tried ###.###.#### under numbers or user defined and I get only ###.###.#### instead of the numbers I typed in the cell for phone numbers. Appreciate a suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tilo

The format you want is entered as 000\-000\-0000. That will insert the '-' characters after you type the number in a field which is

Type: NUMERIC
Entry required: No
Length: 10
Decimal Places: 0
Default Value: <blank> or 0000000000

Hope that helps

Tony

It worked perfect. Thank you so much. I tried different approaches but to no avail. Looks like I still have to learn a lot. At least my Address book works now the way I need and want it. Thanks again
