Hi Kelvin

Fonts belong to the OS, not to the application. So you need to go Applications > Software Centre and search for Microsoft Core Fonts and install them. That will probably give you what you are looking for.

There is also a package call Ubuntu Restricted Extras which installs them as well a certain codecs for Audio and Video.

To get these packages you will need to go (in Software Centre) to Edit > Software Sources, and make sure 'Software restricted by copyright or legal issues (multiverse)' is checked.

Please also note that packages like this are restricted by copyright or legal issues in some countries. See http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/licensing for more information.

You can download new fonts from various websites, e.g. www.fontsquirrel.com
Once downloaded, if you double-click on a font file (.ttf or .otf - if you download a zipped archive you'll have to extract the contents first) it'll be opened by the Font Viewer. In the bottom-right corner of that window is a button to "Install Font".
When you next open OpenOffice, the new font(s) will be available.

Host OS: Windows 7
Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (VBox 4.0.10 r72479) VM
OpenOffice 3.2

Hi, I seem to be unsuccessful installing custom fonts. Before using the above suggesting, I use the normal installation and created /usr/share/fonts/truetype/hebrew-fonts and put my .ttf there, ran sudo fc-cache -f with no success.

Thenhad no success following the OpenOffice help doc's on how to add fonts, installing a font using the font viewer, I just double clicked it again just to see if it installed, but it gave me the [Install Font] button again, BUT, the only success I did have is when I installed a font from the Software Center.

So, I reboot to see if this would do the job, but no. :( I have not tried the "Ubuntu Restricted Extra", because I don't know where to located if it's an app. It's not in any of the menu's, so I'm assuming it just installed stuff?

HELP! :)

Hi Kelvin

Ubuntu Restricted Extras package is in the Ubuntu Software Centre - Just search for Ubuntu Restricted. But as I said, you need the Multiverse repository enabled. However, I doubt if it will install Hebrew fonts. There are various Hebrew font packages in the Ubuntu Software Centre - search for 'hebrew fonts'.

Sorry, VcDeveloper, I thought you were Kelvin returning with a supplementary query.

Generally it is not a good idea to put a new question on on that it already Solved. It is best to open a new question.
