euro

I normally insert the euro symbol by ctrl alt and the "4" button wich has the euro symbol but it doesn't work?

I find that one of AltGr+4 or Ctrl+Shift+U20AC can be relied upon for €. Failing those, there's always the Character Map (Applications > Accessories > Character Map, search for Euro, but ignore the ECU).

Using italian keyboard layout the euro symbol is AltGr + e

Sounds like UK keyboard, then it should be AltGr+4.

btw. in case you'd like to assign a different key
system preferences -> keyboard -> options -> add Euro symbol to different keys
