I need to know how to calculate and display the slope in a chart (scatter).

In OpenOffice.org Calc, go to the menu Insert then Function. You're looking for LINEST. Once at the information box, click on the Help button and read about how to use the array feature. Their Example includes a discussion of slope.

Because it's related to correlation and least-squares regression, your data (scatter) should approximate a linear function to some extent or the regression line isn't really useful.
