Open office documents slow to open on Ubuntu 10.04

My open office documents take 20 seconds to open in Ubuntu 10.04. The problem comes and goes, it was back to normal (opening in about 1 second) for a while but has now reverted back to 20 seconds. I have not noticed anything that has changed which may affect the different reactions, e.g. updates etc.
