Exporting a chart in Calc to a .pdf or .jpg file

Asked by Niklas

I want to integrate a chart I produced in a spreadsheet in a latex-file. So I need to convert only my graph into a .pdf or jpg file. I tried to select the Chart and print to a .ps file directly but it gave me the whole sheet. Export as PDF also gives me the whole document. If you anything, tanks in advance.

I think my first post is not very clear.

I need to convert a chart in a calc spreadsheet into a .pdf or jpg file. I tried to select the Chart and print it as selection to a .ps file but the result was that I got the whole spreadsheet in my .ps file. I tried to use the export as PDF option, but it also gave me the whole document as a pdf-file. If anyone knows anything, thanks in advance.

In OpenOffice 2.2 :

- Select the zone you want to export in your spreadsheet.
- In Menu "File", click on "Export"
- Choose PDF file type, the name of your file, etc...
- In PDF options first tab, limit to "selection"

This works on my computer !

Hope that it helps you.

Your method works for selections of the spreadsheet itself, but if I try it with the chart object it does not work. But thank you very much anyways.
What I did now to get around the Problem:
- I put the chart somewhere in an empty area of my spreadsheet
- I selected the rows and columns under the chart
- I exported like you proposed the selection and that gave me a page with the diagramm
- with Adobe Reader I copied the chart to the clipboard and changed it with GIMP to jpeg

A bit complicated ... ;)

Niklas

So, my question stays if there is a simple direct way to export a chart diagramm to jpeg and pdf ?

You can copy the chart object in the spreadsheet application, then paste the same object in OpenOffice Draw and export to say eps or svg. This makes the file subsequently editable in Inkscape or Xara Xtreme.
