formula for percentages

Asked by Kendra Wight

Can you please tell me how to calculate percentages? I want a third column that calculates the percentage of the other two columns. The other columns are not next to each other in my data sheet.

I'll assume that you have two columns of numbers one at A going from A1 to A10 and the other at B going from B1 to B10. If for the third column at C you want each cell to be the percentage that A is of the sum of the A and B cells on the same row.

In the cell C1 write the following: =A1/(A1+B1)*100 and after that has been done, copy the C1 cell with copy and paste into the C2 cell. It's formula will become =A2/(A2+B2)*100 . Continue pasting all the way down the C column to C10.

Each cell formula will adjust to work with that row. You should now see the percentage numbers. The percentage that B is of the sum of the A and B cells is the difference from 100.
