at the time the mouse pointer should be idle, it drifts across the page,or up and down

when sitting idle my mouse pointer drifts across the page is this a common problem?

Does this happen generally? Or just in Open Office?

Its probably worth cleaning your mouse including the ball and rollers if you're not using an optical one and your mouse surface.
