Is HSQL being actively developed?

Asked by bwallum

Hello

I'm new to Ubuntu and have previously been using OOo on Windows XP. I found Base (with HSQL) on Windows to be problematic and used Access instead.

Now that I'm fully off Windows is the embedded HSQL ok in Linux? Is HSQL still supported and benefiting from ongoing development?

If not, what is the most stable database to use with Ubuntu?

I'm setting up quite a simple database with about 5,000 records and a fair bit of number crunching of angles and distances to yield x,y,z co-ordinates for about 200 different local topographical features (tree centre, stream edge, fence line, post centre, etc, etc...)

Kind Regards
Bob

Google: ooo base sql
finds this:

OOo 2.0's default (embedded) database is HSQLDB 1.8.0.1, an open-source (BSD license) Java database engine based on Thomas Mueller's original Hypersonic SQL Project. Using OOo's Base feature requires installing the Java 2.0 Runtime Engine (which is not open-source) or the presence of an alternative open-source engine, such as Kaffe. The HSQLDB 1.8.0 documentation on SourceForge states the following regarding SQL conformance:
