Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

As taken from the Open Office help:
To access this command...
Choose Tools - Options - Language Settings - Writing Aids, in the Available language modules list, ensure there is a "tick" in the checkbox for the thesaurus.
See screenshot - http://imgbin.org/index.php?page=image&id=1351

Kind Regards,
Mitch Towner.

Mitch I have followed you instructions, but for some reason although options chosen were as per you screenshot provided, still thesaurus option was off. I have reinstalled open office through 'Ubuntyu Software Centre'. Still thesaurus option remained off. Uninstalled and reinstalled through Synaptic Package Manager, again option still off. Seems there is no English GB thesaurus option! And I have uninstalled all open office and its components.

I have manually installed Open Office 3.2, as per instructions available through www, and now the thesaurus option is available and working.

I don't agree with you with not accepting it as a BUG!

Prior versions of Open Office worked well with Ubuntu 9.04, and had no problems with all recent versions of Open Office for Windows XP. Something is clashing between Ubuntu 9.10 and Open Office 3.1

- Install Open Office 3.2 if you are using Ubuntu 9.10, this option has solved my problem -
