OpenJDK not updating

Asked by justingo147

My OpenJDK java runtime isn't updating which is causing all my java programs to not respond.
The reason I have OpenJDK is because of the fact, that Sun Java from Oracle, doesnt work so I have to use
an alternative. But the alternative, OpenJDK, doesn't update to Java's latest version. Version 6 Update 23.
Can anyone help me with updating, or maybe even installing another flavor of java?

Please explain what you mean when you say that it is causing all your Java programs not to respond, and why you believe that problem is related to openjdk in Ubuntu being at Version 6 Update 20 (or earlier, if you're not running Lucid, Maverick, or Natty).

I mean that most of them are not working properly. Like for say an example, Minecraft, it won't work due to the fact that I need Java updated, which it is not. And I believe its related to that, because you need the latest java for almost all java applications. Some programs work, but most just load, then stop. But it seems fine now that I installed the Sun-Java and updated it.

I am not aware of *any* Java applications that require a Java version greater than 6b20. Furthermore, a Java program launching but not doing anything or responding to user input is *not* generally indicative of a version incompatibility. But I'm glad you got a Java implementation installed that is suitable for your needs.
