Why OpenCV hasn't been updated since 4.6

Asked by Yusuke Kameda

Why hasn't it been updated since OpenCV 4.6 in 2022?
Should I report the bug in the same way?

Ubuntu noble (24.04 LTS) and oracular (24.10) provide OpenCV 4.6

Which Ubuntu release are you referring to?
There may be a PPA with an updated version.

Focal and Jammy included the very recent versions of OpenCV (at their time).

But Noble (24.04) has OpenCV 4.6 which is relatively old (from 2022). And Oracular (24.10) and Plucky (to be 25.04) are stuck at the same OpenCV 4.6.

There have been several releases after that: OpenCV 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, 4.10. Isn't it time for an upgrade? Are there compatibility issues or other that make this change problematic?

Ubuntu is copying packages from Debian (to avoid double packaging work), and also in Debian there is only version 4.6.0, see https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/opencv
I suggest that you create a bug report in Debian's bug tracker requesting a version upgrade. When Debian has created a new package with a current version of opencv, then this will also be coped to Ubuntu's development release.

Can you help with this problem?
