Try typing

openbox

and see if that starts up a gui desktop ;)

Thanks Tom, that solved my question.

Thanks Guys. I installed Openbox and Gnome desktop and it is working perfectly.

Thanks for all your help. You guys are truly fantastic.

OpenBox is very much lighter on resources than the Gnome Desktop Environment but Gnome is the standard one we mostly all use for the extra functionality it offers ;)

I'm really glad you have got this sorted now :)
Congrats and regards from
Tom :)

Ooops, OpenBox is just a WindowManager, not a full DE isn't it? Lol, sorry i can see why gnome is needed too now. Also i forgot about all those people using the even more fully featured KDE with Kubuntu or the lighter Xfce in Xubuntu and there seem to be a few people switching to LxDE for an even lighter DE. There are a few other DEs but there seem to be thousands of WMs

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
