libopenblas-dev update in 18.04

Asked by Earl R. Lapus

Is the libopenblas-dev package going to be updated for 18.04? If so, when would that update be available.
I am asking this because an issue filed for the said package was already fixed but apparently it is not yet included in the current version.

Here is a link to the commit of the fix: https://github.com/xianyi/OpenBLAS/pull/1347

Manfred Hampl suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #3037: “no rolling release”.

Okay, so I guess the openBLAS version that contains the update that I need will not be in 18.04. However, looking at the openBLAS changelogs, it seems to me that the specific commit is included in 0.3.1 - which is the openBLAS version for 18.10.

Links to documentation about the official ways (SRU, backports) are contained in FAQ #3037 but I am not confident that such request would be fulfilled soon.

If you urgently need an openblas version higher or equal 0.3.1 on your Ubuntu bionic system, you could try downloading and manually installing a version for a newer Ubuntu release (e.g. 0.3.3 for cosmic) on your system. As far as I can see, all dependencies would be fulfilled.

For the 64bit version of Ubuntu
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libopenblas-base_0.3.3+ds-1_amd64.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libopenblas-dev_0.3.3+ds-1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg --install libopenblas-*_0.3.3+ds-1_amd64.deb
(or slightly different URLs for the 32bit version)
