Display both Numbers and Symbols on same keymap

Hi, Is it possible to build a uk keymap containing both numbers 1234567890 and symbols !"£$%^&*() displayed on the keyboard at the same time?

I have looked into it, and it seems that by editing Xorg keysyms we can display symbols OR numbers, but not sure how we'd display both at the same time on the same keymap.

If anyone can shed any light on this or point us in the right direction that would be most appreciated.

Thanks actionparsnip, but how would I reach them?
I've googled extensively but this launchpad entry is the only one I can find...
