Is this ogre the 3d engine?

If so you can check what version is in any release of Ubuntu using the website http://packages.ubuntu.com/

http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=libogre&searchon=names&subword=1&version=all&release=all

Yes, I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. A few weeks ago, the new stable version of Ogre was released. This means that all on-site documentation has been updated to reflect the new release. The version that's in Ubuntu's repositories right now, isn't usable anymore for future projects. It's only needed for existing projects that haven't yet (or won't) ported their code to the new engine.

I know that Ubuntu-policy is to freeze major updates between Ubuntu-releases. That means Ogre 1.4 (Eihort) would have to be added to the repository before the final of Feisty, or else it would have to wait six months. Therefore my question: is this gonna happen?

There is the possibility that newer packages can be provided after the release by means of the "backports" repository.See the following page for details about backports:-

The backports won't be of that much help I'm afraid. A backport can only be made if the package is available in another Ubuntu release, and if the new version is compatible with the old one. Both are not the case here.

So I guess my actual question is: How do I get Ogre 1.4 in the repositories before the final release of Feisty?

If upstream (debian) has a newer version it could be backported to feisty after the release.

You won't get it in feisty before release. Feisty is in a freeze and is due for release in about a week.

Ok, thanks for the answers. I searched the Debian packages, but apparently they're still stuck at version 1.0. I guess it'll have to wait six months after all.

Hmm, why is my post marked as best answer...?
