No gui after upgrade to 10.10 - nvidia-kernel-common - missing LSB information

Asked by david walters

I've just updated from a working 10.04 desktop to 10.10.
After the reboot I only have terminal access.
There were error and warning messages during the upgrade.

 Setting up nvidia-kernel-common (20051028+1ubuntu7)...
   updat-rc.d:warning:/etc/init.d/nvidia-kernel missing LSB information
  .
  .
Errors were encountered while processing nvidia-kernel-common
 E:subprocess /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code (1)

I'm relatively new to linux so keep things simple, please.

Thanks,
David.

If you boot to root recovery mode you can uninstall the driver there. When users use proprietary video drivers and change release, often the driver has issues.
