MSI GP62 6QF Notebook - Install Hanges

Asked by RustyJarz

Hi,

Trying to install Ubuntu 15.xx, 16.xx x64 from USB on an MSI GP62 6QF Notebook and the system hangs just after the purple screen. I have seen CPU soft error messages just prior to the hang. I've tried different UEFI BIOS configurations like Legacy, UEFI and CSM, and just UEFI with disabling Secure Boot, Speed Step, VT, doesn't seem to matter what the settings are the hang and the purple screen just after selecting to either Try Ubuntu without Installing, or going straight to Install Ubuntu.

I can't figure this out, and I'm also a novice Ubuntu user.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

EDIT: this question is unresolved. I managed to install 16.04, but after the installer had finished and the desktop began to load the desktop never fully loaded and all I had was a background and a mouse pointer.

Windows is still completely different from OS with completely different support. What Windows does or doesn't do is irrelevant here.
