NVidia Driver for NVIDIA Geforce GTX 765M Not Functioning Correctly on 12.04.4 or 14.04 Beta
Hi guys
I recently got a new laptop (MSI GS70 Stealth) and decided right away that installing Ubuntu was the right thing to do. At first I thought checking out Ubuntu 14.04 Beta1 will be a good idea. However I was unable to get my second monitor up and running. Apparently the video inputs (HDMI and other) is connected directly to the graphics card.
I started Googling around and trying all potential fixes I could find. Unfortunately not one was successful. I was not able to get the NVidia driver to work even after multiple attempts and different driver packages. I tried the driver manager proposed drives (all versions, one at a time) as well as 331 and the latest drivers available for download on NVidia's website.
Basically, I would like to ask for a step-by-step guide on how exactly to get the graphics driver up and running and whether I will be able to use my external monitor immediately once the driver is working? I also propose that a lot of work should be put into fixing all graphics driver related issues for all new laptops. Most users prefer everything to just work out of the box. I guess the NVidia folks is not making this an easy task. However, a solution will do the Ubuntu world a massive favour.
All the best
