Ubuntu graphics memory management/detection

Asked by Alex on 2012-06-30

I use nvidia-current on geforce 210 that has 512MB. My system is running slow since i've upraded to 12.04 (choppy 3d apps and slow firefox performance).
when i run nvidia-smi it says that i have only 127MB and that most of it is full. I have a feeling that ubuntu doesn't detect the correct amount of my graphics' card memory.

What can i do to research on this issue further or to fix it?

Question information

Uninstall the nvidia driver then reboot and reinstall it. It is rare for proprietary video drivers to survive release changes.

Reinstalled the driver as you said but the problem persists.
I noticed the performance suffering after i use the unity dash.
