Spontaneous reversion to log-on screen

Asked by Terry Relph-Knight

Since upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 my machine keeps spontaneously reverting to the log-on screen. I would like to report this as a bug, but I cannot see how.

As far as I can tell the reversion to log-on is triggered when any video is running, although it does not always happen immediately video is displayed. Also fast scrolling in PDF documents seems to be quite a reliable trigger.

I have a dual Athlon 64bit machine with NVIDIA 8600GT graphics card. All the latest updates applied. It is set up to multiplte boot to Windows 7 and Linux Mint as well as Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I don't seem to have problems with video or instability when running Windows.
