xorg and nvidia-current - reducing startup time

Asked by Nek

Hi,

Starting Xorg with Nvidia module takes at least 4-7 seconds due to nvidia module being initialized for the first time. The next time it is started (module already initialized) or without the nvidia module, this only takes 1 second or less.

My question is, how can I debug the nvidia module (270.41) to see why it takes so long to init? And if there is a way to reduce this time as much as possible, hopefully to 1 second.

Steps to correctly reproduce:

$ rmmod nvidia
$ startx

Thanks for your help.

Please log a bug. Natty is NOT ready and NOT stable. You will get issues like this as the OS is Beta. If you are happy to stomach bugs and feature holes in order to log bugs to get the OS ready for release then use Natty. If you want a stable OS that works then use Maverick or Lucid.

Can you help with this problem?
