Will 177.80 be included in intrepid?

Asked by falstaff

Today nVidia released a new Binary driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_177.80.html). Will it be included in intrepid? It would be nice, im going to buy a new laptop with a Quadro FX 770M which is only supported by this driver....

intrepid is currently in beta freeze which means that software generally isn't updated to newer versions, this is done in order to find and fix as many bugs as possible before release. at the time of writing the current nvidia driver in intrepid is 177.76, i hope you understand the reasoning behind not upgrading.

you can of course manually install the nvidia driver you need for that graphics chip yourself by following this documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual

Thanks for the answer. Altough, it would have been nice if it makes it into Intrepid. As far as i know there are some major performance improvements for kde, which would speed up kubuntu...

I understand what it meens to be in Beta freeze, but I hopped there would be an exception for this :-)
