After activating NVIDIA drivers for my Gforce FX 5200 card, Resolutions cannot be changed! Only options 640 x 480!!!

Asked by PaleRider

I have a NVIDIA Gforce FX 5200 video card, and after activating the Generic NVIDIA drivers that came with Ubuntu 10.04.1, I cannot change Resolutions higher than 640 x 480!!!

I have tried removing the drivers and re-activate them, but same results. I also downloaded Linux drivers from NVIDIA: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.27-pkg1.run, but get a failed to install, because of wrong script and kernel, what should I do?

Thanks,

Roger

run sudo nvidia-xconfig (with X disabled) or modify by yourself /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You can run nvidia-xconfig on the desktop but you will need to restart the x server to apply the settings.
